Market analysis of 29 August 2024
Wind generators delivered 109.52 GWh on 29 August 2024 and solar generators delivered 37.17 GWh, a combined 146.69 GWh across Australia’s five eastern and southern market regions. In Network Map’s daily unit records for 1 August to 31 August 2024, that was the 8th-highest daily wind total of 31 dates and the 7th-highest combined wind and solar day.
Wind output averaged 82.58 GWh a day over the same dates, so 29 August ran 32.6% above the period mean. Hydro added 29.11 GWh, while black and brown coal units supplied 114.76 GWh.
The Daily Pattern Through The Month
The first chart places the event day in its monthly context. It shows daily wind and solar energy for each date from 1 August to 31 August. Wind was the larger of the two on 29 August, at 2.95 times the solar total.

Where The Energy Came From
Victoria supplied the largest regional share of wind and solar energy, 49.62 GWh or 33.8% of the day’s total. New South Wales followed with 40.34 GWh, and South Australia contributed 24.43 GWh.

Reading The Day For Asset Performance
A high-output day is a useful benchmark for comparing a single wind or solar unit with its fuel group and its region. The next step is to match each unit’s interval output with the prices that applied when the energy was delivered, which turns the volume result into a revenue view.
Figures use positive energy from Network Map’s daily unit records for 29 August 2024, grouped by source fuel classification and region. Daily totals are summed across all classified units.
